Moment of Truth?

The funny thing about jokes is that they're all serious business. The trick is never to let people know it.

What is it about a joke that works for it?

Content. Yes. It must appeal to the faculties.

Implementation. Very Important. It is that what is perceived by the senses. You must make the audience see the funny side of it, you must let it sink in. How you put it, and how you act it out, will determine the reaction you get.

But what determines whether a joke is accepted or not?

Moments. That is the word. You have to know your moments, pick them carefully, match them up with something appropriate and deliver. If you get the moment wrong, all else shall be in vain.

Moments. It's a funny business. One, that like tonight, is worth a night's pondering.

How do you pick a moment? How do you know it's right? Do you ever, or do you just chance it because the stake's aren't too high, after all, I'm just telling a joke.

But what happens when the stakes are high? What if it's not all a joke. Do you wait for that moment, of sublime perfection, or do you go out there and create it?

“If you want to tell people the truth, make them laugh, otherwise they'll kill you.”
-Oscar Wilde

Moments, it's a serious business, and the joker has to die somewhere. With a laugh, seems as good a way to go about it as any.
